how hard to fix ac compress. clutch? (3rd gen but any gen will do)
My ac compress. is whining like a bitch, but it still works, so this leads me to believe that its the clutch. My question is how hard is it to fix? I was looking at my helms and cant figure out if i can do this with out disconnecting the lines so i dont have to recharge the system etc., anyone know if this is possible? (prob not
) Also what parts should i buy to replace, the clutch itself, bearing etc? I think this might be a pain especially since you need some special tools, might be a job for the mechanic if he doesnt rape me with labor costs. thanks for any help

nah i put about half a bottle of belt dressing and checked the tension on it (maybe not half a bottle but a lot ha) and it usually only happens when i actually turn the ac on, once in a while you can hear it really light when the ac actually isnt on, which kinda make sense cause there is still some drag when the ac is off but not as much obviously...and i am dumb..so thanks for the help
....does it sound like i am on the right track though? thanks

lol i dunno about that belt dressing stuff, i got 200 off my car cuz the previous owner did that instead of tightening it. When u first start the car does it sqeak too?
otherwise i'd say just get a compressor from the junkyard.

yeah it does it when it starts, at first it was just when it started, for like the first 10 min, now its when ever it wants, its sparatic at times..and then at other times its like a solid 10 min of pure hell..sounds like that noise from dumb and dumber..the most annoying sound in the world..yeah its bad. And the junkyard idea i thought about too..just have to find a car with decent miles..hopefully less than 100k

Yep, sounds like the clutch is wasted. It's not that hard to replace the clutch. The only special tool you'll need is to remove the little spring C-clip that holds it in. Oh, and then you'll need something to pull the clutch you, but you can probably get by with a flat screwdriver.
But before you go this far, there's a little screw that holds in the outside plate; make sure this hasn't loosened itself...I know mine did that once. But then later, it turned out to be the clutch.
