Alrighty, I let my pads on the back get down to the metal, and my dustshields are pressed against the rotors, both causing a bad scratching. When I looked at the rotor, there is a band on the outside and inside that's shiny where the rotor's been scratched up from the pads and dustshields. When I replace the pads, would the scratched areas require me to machine my rotors? Or would it wear back out normal after a bit of driving.?

 

what you can do is take your rotors to a napa, pep boys, whatever. and have the turn the rotors for you. (smoothes them out). any defects on your rotor should not come out with wear. your brake pads show wear, your rotors shouldn't. (to a certain extent, deep scratches shouldn't come out with wear)
