ls/vtec opinions
Well here's the deal guys, I want to do a swap... but I don't have enough cash for the vtec b18 so i was thinking about getting the LS non-vtec and then later, when I have enough cash, upgrading to vtec.
So should i do this or should I just go B16? I know that the question has been asked a million times but I just can't make up my mind even after reading and searching...
also is it possible to bar certify a ls/vtec? I live in CA so that makes it a big issue.
the other one I wanted to do was the B20 but I've heard that there is no way to pass that one in CA.
thanks

Get a b16 th last thing u want to do isbe cheapand just slap a vtec head later on... you need new pistons, rings, gaskets,, bearings for it to be reliable, you can't just slap a vtec head on.
damn i'd like a b18c1 but i just don't think I can afford it... from what i've heard it's going to run me atleast 3500 if I install it myself. While the b16 i could get all the parts for just over 2000 I think right? and i figure it's good to save up $1000 extra for extra stuff that might come up.... i'm not trying to be able to go take on domestic muscle cars or anything... I just wanna have more fun with my car. Turbo however, is something that I think I may want at some point...
your opinions, give them to me.

Why is it that everytime I click on one of these posts(some of them mine) people say, DON'T DO THAT, BUY A GSR MOTOR, he didnt ask if he should buy a gsr swap, he asked about ls/vtec.......
If you do a ls vtec setup, it will, will put down more power than a gsr, and again if its done right, it will last you just as long as a gsr. Personally, if your on a budget, get a b16.... then later down the road, swap the block out for something with a little more meat to it, b18, b20... built... of course... Everyone hates on b16's, but they have the best tranny besides the ITR(at least thats what i think) and a good flowing head.
Edit: i dont know **** about cali's laws, i live across the country

Well, B16 is still a great motor (especially if your interested in auto-x/track days) and it responds great to a turbo.
H-T is rather anti-B16A, but it is indeed a very worthwhile motor.
LS/VTEC on a budget is a recipe for disaster. It costs big money to get one built correctly. Even then, the jury's still out regarding reliability/longevity depending on who you ask.

I guess I'm going B16 and building it. I want daily driven car that I can take to the track on weekends to rip it up for fun. Also just want a little more road power for driving around.
On another note, what kind of MPG should I expect with a B16? what about a turbo b16?
Also, and I know this has been asked a billion times, what b16 is the easest to swap and i'm not talking about b16b
what have you guys with a b16 paid for all parts needed for a swap?

all b16's are the same, the early gen 1's have are different and have a different tranny mount because of the cable tranny, get a later modle. B16 SIR2's B16a2's and b16a3's are all the same, depends on what car you have, for EG's or OBD1 the SIR2's or b16a3's would be your choice, for EK's b16a2's OBD2....
