Default Prelude Speed Sensor

If the speed sensor responsible for the speedo reading goes defective. Would it cause the car to limit at 6,500 rpm. Would it affect performance otherwise?

My speedometer isn't working at all and car limits at 6,500.

Thanks in advance.

I'd say yes. If you have a vtec motor then you should know that vtec won't engage when speed is below some certain value (40kph I believe). If you have wrong readings coming from this sensor then vtec will not engage and engine rpms are limited to 6500 for safety. Also you may also experience some power steering issues and 4WS (if available) problems...
