How to remove stripped axle nut?
Im pretty sure the nut that holds the left axle on the hub is stripped. I can turn it by hand (with a socket and wrench) both clockwise and counter clockwise, but it doesnt go on any tighter or come off. The axle shaft isnt spinning. I ordered new axles and need to get these off. Any ideas how to go about getting this thing off without causing more problems?
well if you ordered new axles and you have no other alternative you can alway cut it off.
I'd try the impact gun first, then if that doesn't work get one of those rotory tools which uses compressed air to cut it off.

if its stripped, how is an impact gun gonna get it off? I can turn it by hand so its not like I need force behind it. Id like to try to avoid cutting it off but I will if thats a last resort. cutting stuff is fun

An impact works by delivering very short blasts of torque... sometimes this works. If not, get out yer cutting wheel

drill out a section of it with a 1/4" bit. then it should come right off by hand.
you may put a dimple on the axle's threads but its easier then cutting it off.

i had the same thing happen to me. what i did was take a chisel and a heavy hammer. you have to cut into the nut with the chisel and then flatten the angle on the chisel and hit it with the hammer so that it will turn.
if you are confused : start like his to cut into the nut l_
then you flatten the angle to turn it /_

Thanks, but I think you are mistaken on the actual problem. Im able to turn the nut with no problem. The problem appears to be that the threads that hold the nut on are stripped and I can turn the nut both directions but it doesnt loosen or tighten. My friend is gonna take care of it at his shop once I get the new axles so it should be ok since he will have access to all kinds of tools.
