Default Headlights

Im gonna go pick up some bulbs for my EP3 today and I was wondering what would be the best kind to get? A buddy of mine said I should get the PIAA Hyperwhites. What do you all think? Thanks.

In my opinion, and probably most others, you should go with an HID setup. Even tho PIAA carries top of the line bulbs, they will still go out after a few months of use. I learned this the hardway when i got some japanese hyperwhites and they went out in 1 week!

I agree. HID is better in all aspects.

Hyperwhites have 1/4 of the distance stock bulbs produce. I think the only aftermarket bulb I like are the Sylvannia Cool Blues.

Pros:
Although their light in the headlight is a bit whiter than stock as well as the color that hits the ground, it's distance is just like stock.

Cons:
It doesn't last because it's still a blue bulb. It's longevity is pretty unpredictable. One of the bulbs managed an 11-month lifespan and is still going. I don't expect it to last much longer.

The color it produces on the ground isn't the best in rainy weather conditions at night either. Overall, it's not brighter than stock either.

You should look into HIDs. The difference between light output with the hyper white bulbs is amazing and definitely worth the money. Look at http://www.xenondepot.com at prices and pictures of beam patterns. They only sell Phillips kits which are considered the best in the industry. I bought the 5000k H4 High/Low kit for my EP and love them.

The headlights in my EP are the best I've found in a Honda product so far. Compared to my earlier Civics and my del Sol, they're positively incredible. There may be room for improvement here as far as the effective distance of illumination. Can anyone answer me this:

Do HIDs extend effective illumination. I'm under the impression that because the stock system is a two-filament bulb, and the HIDs are not, that you lose the high-beam. Is this correct? If not, what manufacturer/vendor makes a system that allows both low-beam and high-beam?

Are there more conventional bulbs that extend effective illumination, that don't compromise the electrical system, that also don't cause a problem for oncoming drivers when on low beam?

I could not care less about how the headlights look from the outside when on, other than they remain legal and they don't cause problems to oncoming traffic.

Thanks! I went to the website and sure enough, they say that vehicles that use the H4 bulb can have both low and high beams. Unfortunately, they also state...

"NO XENON HID lighting system available from any source is DOT approved if installed outside of the factory. Moreover, in the U.S, this is not street legal for use on public roads. As a result, we officially endorse the kit for exhibition and off-road use and will only sell the kit to be used for these purposes. We are not responsible for buyers who violate the terms of sale while in which they will assume all responsibilities for any unauthorized or unintended use other than exhibition or off-road use."

...so that pretty much rules out me using them.

Are the HID's hard to install? Is it something a complete dumb @ss could do? Or should a professional do it?
