quick oil change question.
I did my oil change on my car and filled roughly 4.25 quarts of oil. Anyway, I started the car after the change to let it warm up and upon checking the dip stick, the oil was between the first and second dot. Isn't the second dot the 4 quart mark? Should I just continue filling until the second dot? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Oh, did a search too.
You might have encountered this problem if you car wasnt on flat ground. I had the same problem before and realized that my car was sloped a little. That makes the dipstick reading off by a pretty significant amount. The other possibility might also be that the car was not comepletely cooled down when you checked your oil. If you didnt it before you started the engine it would be accurate but if you started the motor then checked it, it would read lower than it actually is. Let the car sit for a few hours on a flat surface then recheck it. If you pored 4 quarts and the dipstick is only showing halfway after that, something is definatley wrong!

The car was on level ground when I checked the oil and to my understanding, you are suppose to check the oil a few minutes after the motor was running a few minutes. Thanks for the concern though. The oil level is between the first and second dot so according to yellow blur & Emerika, it's all good.

let it sit for a little longer and all the oil will drain into the pan and you'll get a more accurate reading.. but i don't think it should be much more than what you have (but I have a smaller engine)
