Default Installed some T1R, Mugen and DC goodies (many pics)

After a year of enjoying my R stock, i decided to burn a hole in my wallet and slap on a full exhaust system, T1R earthing kit and kenji's ecu. Installation was pretty straight forward, and everything fit perfectly, especially the Mugen twinloop. Here's a few pics:

T1R USDM resonated testpipe

Mugen Twinloop

DC JDM header

Twinloop installed

Overall im very happy with everything so far. The JDM header dwarfs the stock header, and the fit and finish on the T1R testpipe and mugen exhaust were fantastic. For those who havent heard the twinloop exhaust, it has a very unique sound. Its nearly as quiet as stock when you first start the car and drive around for a few min, but once the car warms up it turns into a nice deep sound, like a louder stock exhaust with a nice rumble in the midrange. VTEC sounds amazing, its not much louder than the stock system but has particularly sweet ring to it. If i can get myself ahold of my dad's laptop, i can get some sound clips via microphone for you guys. I have no dyno graphs as of yet, but the mods (especially kenji's ecu) have really transformed the car. The midrange is a major improvement over stock, and the first 3 gears pull like crazy now.

The only gripe i have is that the mugen exhaust b-pipe has a wicked bottle neck when it connects into the cat/testpipe. The pipe shrinks down into the flange, and i measured it to be around 2", which is the same as the stock exhaust. The rest of the piping is 60.5 mm, but i didnt know it had such a small collector at the cat end. Have any of you guys with the twinloop fixed this bottleneck? I'd love to get a larger flange and piping on before the first resonator, but im a little weary about hacking up such an expensive piece, and how much it will cost to my amounting debt already. Anyway feel free to ask me any questions.

very nice set up, did you notice any improvement in idle quality with the earthing system? or was it hard to tell what mod did what?
and kind of OT for this post but did you realize any gains with the icebox over the stock intake box?

The piping is 54.5 mm before the resonator versus 60.5 mm after. One theory posted on this board a while back was that this would aid midrange power while not having any significant adverse effects on top end power. EPGONZALES dynoed at 208 whp with stock cams and the Mugen exhaust was installed on his car at the time so I'm inclined to believe that theory. Some people have cut the pipe before the resonator and had larger diameter piping welded in it's place, but no one has posted dyno charts to show whether or not this produces any gains, and until they do I'm leaving mine as it is.

champ R. you have almost the same setting as my R.

JDM DC 4-1 + T1R test pipe + T1R b-pipe(swaped out mugen with T1R due to the bottle neck issue)+ mugen rear

it's good~

I actually put the earthing kit on before i installed the header/exhaust, and didnt notice any real hp/tq gain, but brighter headlights and better idle/starts. My first mod for the car was the icebox a year ago, and it was definitely an improvement over the stock box... better midrange power and throttle responce imo.

Does EPGONZALES use the usdm version of the twinloop unmodified? If so thats impressive with 208whp.

He was using the JDM version I believe, but the diameter of the piping is exactly the same. I think he has a different setup now (race exhaust that goes underneath the rear swaybar), but about a year ago he did dyno 208 whp with an unmodified Mugen exhaust.

Which is exactly why the 2.5"+ exhaust for an ITR is completely over-hyped to some degree.

http://www.ipsracing.com can hook you up with the Type 1 Racing test pipe. I have been looking into that piece also. Is the exhaust raspy or fartish with the T1R test pipe?

Everything looking good

Very nice setup. I need a header and test pipe/high flow cat to compliment my greddy evo on my GSR.

Careful w/ that header, doesn't it hang really low? Anything to protect it?

Will the testpipe cause your car to throw codes? I want to get a carsound, but dont want the headaches associtaed with it.

Actually I had modified my moogen.. chopped the pipe before the resonator and made it a 2.25" instead. That is what the resonator allowed.... lost a lil torque, but gained a lil more on the high end... feels smoother overall, but I would had done it again I would have just waited a lil before modding it. Depends what type of driving you want.... Hope that helped any bit.

BTW: nice mods MOOGEN OWNZ

The testpipe will cause the check engine light to come on because it doesnt have an o2 bung, but im using kenji's ecu and obd 1 conversion harness so it eliminates the second oxygen sensor. Also the testpipe isnt raspy one bit and the DC header does hang about 1" lower than the stock one, but im riding on stock suspension so im not really worried.
