Default How do you get your block/head to look new again??

Hey guys, I am about to change my header and valve cover so i want to try and make my block/head look newer. How can I do this??

give it a hardcore cleaning.....gunk foamy engine bright, simple green automotive cleaner...take your pick

i wouldn't use a wire brush, but for stubborn stuck on stuff i'd hit it with a toothbrush

cover distributor/battery
spray when engine is cool/cold
let them soak for a bit (15-20 minutes)
hit bad spots w/ a toothbrush
gently rinse

can anything stiffer than a tooth brush be used without causing damage? how about an sos pad or something like that?

if your oil pan gasket or anything else leaks, make sure you address that first before wasting time trying to clean up the engine. Simple green is amazing stuff.
