Default Theory on clearing engine code on cat?

Sup fellas, I recall a while back and attempted a search but could not get anything in return as to the theory of placing a 10k ohm resistor on the 02 sensor in which in some cases could clear the engine code being thrown. Could someone elaborate on this please, and which cable would the resistor have to be spliced onto. thanks in advance, Nick

Car is 99 gsr.

1. Shouldnt have to clear anything with Greddy kit
2. clear code or keep code from reappearing?
3. does the thrown code represent O2 reading?
You can pull the second O2 in your cat and let it read fresh air, just lock tie it to the heat shield and find a big bolt to block hole on cat.
4. simplest way to clear thrown code is pull back up fuse think it 5A, replace and repeat as needed. I dont know about the resisitor idea as I am not sure of the atctual voltage that your computer reads therefore I dont know how much voltage to take away.

Hey Rtype, thanks for the reply.

1. I removed the cat so its not in referrence to the kit itself.

2. I just want to clear the code.

3. I am getting code 67.

4. Yeah the back up I know about the 7.5 amp but since its just a straight pipe the code usually reaapears within the next day, which is why I asked about the 10k ohm resistor.

I had another question in regards to the o2 sensor itself. Does anyone make a simulator for them as they do on mustangs when throwing in x or h pipes. That would be sweet but I am not sure if they are made for acuras or honda in general.

You want to run the resistor inline with the sensor signal on the secondary sensor. Leave the sensor mounted after the primary sensor. What this does is make the secondary sensor report lower than the primary sensor which is what the ECU expects.

If you have a 97+, making the secondary O2 sensor just read open air will give you a code.

i was wonderin what is the 10k ohm resistant coz im getting a code 1 and i think its the o2 censor..whats the best way to clear the codes in ecu in general becau the code keeps coming back everyday...thanks

The best way to keep the code from coming back is to fix your sensor. Code 1 is Primary sensor malfunction. The secondary sensor is only there for emmisions reasons. The Primary sensor is needed for closed loop operation. Get that thing fixed or replaced.

I posted this in the tech section, It worked on my car. Give it a shot.

If you have a 96 model, then it would be fine if u pull the secondary 02 sensor in open air rite???? any one wanna verify this???

Yes, but have you built one for a teg?

I've run the secondary o2 out to read regular air and it would work fine for a while, then a code after a month or two. I then made an o2 simulator and completely removed the secondary o2 (which isn't necessary). I posted about this at one time, but I forgot when.

After much thought, the method of hooking one o2 sensor to the other via a resistor seems fine, but I choose to let the primary o2 sensor do its own job. So I made a simulator for the secondary o2 and removed the o2 completely. The simulator is at: http://www.mkiv.com
tech articles, problem solvers, then o2 simulator.......
I've had mine on for months and not a code in sight......

did you use the exact same components or did you have to taylor it more to the Teg...

I used the exact same components, minus an led or two. As long as the voltages are no higher than 1 and no lower than .2 volts, all should be well. If you are planning to remove the o2 sensor completely, you'll need to put a 20-40 ohm 10watt resistor accross the heater leads. You shouldn't have to remove the o2 sensor. Use all the same parts. I tested it before I put it on and it works perfectly......

not removing the cat... just want a short term fix to see if the cat really is bad or if there is another problem... Thanks...

I'm surprized someone hasn't capitalized on this yet and started selling the patch... seems every other blown Honda is running a straight pipe these days...

I got it off of the supra board, I saw some on the turbo buicks, many modern domestics sties, but none for the Honda. Strange..... Well, I guess Honda owners are mostly enviornmentally concious (yeah, sure).......

You will still get a code because the first sensor is reading exhasut whike the second is reading ambient air = first reading ~2% O2 while the second reading ~21% O2
