Default can someone clarify 'cut outs'?

Ive never actually seen this, but a buddy of mine tried explaining that cut outs consist of a cord that is pulled from the inside of the car, which separates the b pipe from your header or diverts the airflow or some ****, so you run straight header when the cord is pulled (whenever you want) and still have the capability of have a full exhaust. IM confused.

iono....sounds kinda cheesy and ineffiecient

I've never used the cord-actuated exhaust dump, but I had the one with the plate that I would unbolt at the track. From what I HEARD was that the cord-actuated dump wasn't that reliable or strong, and would break pretty easily, but I never had any experience with it, nor did I know anyone with one so I can't say for sure how it works. But I had this exhaust dump (2.5" inlet/outlet), along with friends who also had one, and it worked out great for track use with the dump installed right after the header (where the cat would/should go ).

is there really any point besides noise?

i'm guessing only boosted cars see gains from this?

Not just noise, but if you're pushing some good power from your motor, then this helps, basically running "open header" as this dumps right after it. This is what I used when I ran my H22 on 22x7x13 slicks to achieve a 12.6 @ 108 mph time. Doesn't help worth a **** under 4500 rpms, but after that, in VTEC, it pulls really good.... loud as fawk (seriously need ear plugs when driving a totally gutted car), but did help out quite a bit on my runs.

On a D-series or B16 motor, I'd see it as being kind of pointless as you wouldn't have enough back pressure for the motor, even at WOT.

I had one like this on my car back in 95, with a choke cable to activate the "door." The gains that you get aren't really worth it. Rather run a regular hi flow exhaust system. The one above with a removable door for the track is a good idea though, with wing nuts, quicker/easier than unbolting and securing exhaust

Newman

do you have any pics of it installed?
I got the quick time awhile back but have not put it in yet.

I think I am going to end up running a stock exhaust and the cut out. To help with the noise

Not the cleanest job, but it worked and when painted with high temp black enamel, it looked clean and stock underneath the car.
