On a turbo H22 engine, on which tranny would the quickest quarter mile time be achieved? The H22 tranny, H23 tranny, or F22 tranny.

 

I think the F22 tranny would get the quickest time because of the longer 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. I am about to boost my H22 and I want to have the tranny that will give me the quickest time.

 

it's quite simple really.

h22a tranny is faster in stock form, thus
h22a tranny will be faster in FI form.

 

Shorter gearing is better for faster acceleration.

I am not exacly sure why longer gearing is better for Turbo aps, (so I have heard), maybe it is because the longer gears help the turbo to spool up?

 

Between shifts, the turbo spools down and you lose boost. WHen you have longer gears, you don't have to shift as much and therefore you get to keep more boost going. That is why longer gears and turbo mix. And that is why I think the H23 and F22 would be better for a turbo H22. The F22 might be the best.

 

Anyone out there with some experience? I'm looking for more fact than opinion.

 

h22a tranny by far. used to run an h22a in my accord with a custom set-up. also had a 2.0l integra with haltech and itr tranny with kaaz lsd.

post this question in the fi board. acceleration wise the shortest gearing will get you there. not n/a drastic short but h22a and itr tranny's gearing is plenty. even on 500whp cars.

using a long geared tranny is a total myth. longer gears do provide for some comfortable daily drivers but when acceleration is involved only shorter gearing wins out.

i am using the f23 tranny with my turboed h22 in my acura cl.....it is alot faster than the h22tranny...i have had both and much rather the f23 tranny....my boy had the same setup except he had the h22 tranny while i had the f23 tranny we raced and i just walked on him...remember they say you lose 1/10th of a second on every shift (if you are a good driver, maybe more) so with the shorter gears you will have to shoift more often which can result in a using more time

your link proves nothing. the fact is the shorter the gearing the better for accerleration. i'm not talking 4.7fd, but 4.4fd and below isn't bad.

i guess you just have to have the set-up to know. the only benefit of holding out each gear with a longer geared tranny is comfort. if you can drive your car and shift properly you will accelerate quicker, it's as simple as that.

i was pushing 345whp on my integra at 12psi. with a whopping 330whp at 5500rpm. trust me, my 4.4fd itr tranny allowed me to get to 130mph in no time.

 

the H22 tranny will be the fastest, you wont have any trouble between shift spooling the turbo, they rev to almost 7800 rpms....when you shift you fall to around 5700 or higher if u go to 8k...those rev speeds will keep the turbo spooling...and if you can shift properly the turbo wont lose that much anyways, if you suck at shifting youve got a problem, which is why so many "kids" with these turbo cars suck at driving them....the longer gears may be a slight advanyage on the freeway like from an 80 mph roll race or for top end but for 1/4 mile acceleration, the shorter tranny is better

 

thats why i run a h22 tranny on my h23

What are the gear ratios for the F23 tranny that you're using? You don't mean F22, do you?

 

h22 dont ya want the motor to rev quicker

 

iam not sure what the gear ratio is in the f23 tranny....the f22 /23 tranny are the same....

 

F22a1 tranny drops outa vtec in 2nd becuz of the long 2nd gear... a h23a1 will take the f22a1 tranny..becuz..well...ive seen the battle before and the h23a1 won..a couple of times...the mods where about the same on both cars

 

when i wa N/A i never fell out of vtec in any gear..i used to shift my car at 8000 rpms..when i pulled 2nd the rpm's droped to around 5700 rpms

 

no one mentions traction in this subject ever, i have found it very benifical to use the f23 over the h22 due to the fact that the longer gears keep me from burning out as long my best time with the h22 tranny was a very inconsistant time of 12.821 being the best. with the f23 tranny i am much, much more constitant and my best being a 12.614 and this is on street tires, maybe the h22 would be better with slicks i could see that, but i would not trade mine for the h22 ( i already have one)

 

i always thought you couldnt mix and match different motor series parts. ie: h with f.... or b with d series.

I assume that both the cars were boosted because that is that this post is talking about. Read up. We aren't talking about N/A applications. We're talking about boost.
