not necessarily it coulda just been the spark plug grommets went bad (which they do do) and they caused oil from inside the head (around the cam etc) to leak into the spark plug holes thus covering the spark plugs in oil.

it might rob a little bit of power, was there oil around the diode?

Wow - you are just in luck! Since everyone knows it costs about $2000 to have a motor demolished, I decided to go into business to save people a few $s and dispose of their motors for only $50! I will dispose of your motor in an environmentally safe manner so you can send that motor to me without a worry! If you have that serious problem with oil around the plug tops you should really pull the engine out ASAP before you do some serious damage to our little friends in the wilderness.
