Revalved Koni Sports - Mini Review
This is a bit overdue but here goes. I was able, with the help of CRXLee, to finally get a set of revalved Koni Sports for the Team RNR car. Up until the last event, the car has been on Illuminas f & r. This includes all of last season's racing as well as the first two race weekends this season.
The difference is night & day! The car felt so much different, that we have had to relearn the car. I still think that with a bit more adjustment, the car will be better/faster. In long sweepers where the car used to wallow, it is just solid. It no longer bobs and weaves. Acceleration is better out of tight corners. I can't even began to tell you the improvement it has made.
If you have been waiting, stop it. You have got to get some shocks with race valving. We have been fighting the old shocks for so long. We were @ a point where we decided that we just needed to learn to drive. In other words, we didn't just want to throw money @ the car. Now, it seems ridiculous to have waited. The old shocks have held us back. In fact, as stated above, we are relearning how the car 'feels'. Bottom line is you gotta have the right parts. For us, the Revalved Koni Sports are it.
Thanks Lee!

CJ, not everyone likes to be sideways through EVERY corner, like you do..
George's rear Koni's are being re-valved as I type. They'll be able to hold the 1200lb springs we have on order, which should work great with the Moougen 26mm rear bar...

Good review Mike!
I just got mine installed and broke them in in Seattle last race weekend. I increased my rates to 900f/650r and the shocks handled the stiffer suspension extremely well! I feel much more in tune to the rear and, after re-learning the car, felt very confident.
I found the car reacted much quicker (without the "wallowing") and I had to adjust my inputs accordingly! Roll is greatly reduced and I feel a lot faster in the big sweepers as well in the chicanes.
Great product Lee. Thanks for all your input!

Thanks for the offer, Lee. I will probably send you out a email in the next day of so. We set it up with the initial settings that you recommended. It is funny that we were running the Illuminas on their stiffest setting up front & the Koni's are no where close to full stiff. I now know what you mean about being able to run lower spring rates if we so desired. We spent most of the day just trying to get used the feel of not 'floating' thru corners. Next time out, we will do some actual tuning. The little bit of tuning that we did do - it is incredible when you make an shock adjustment and it actually does change the cars feel/behavior!
Here is something I found a bit funny. An experienced racer told me that we must be running way too stiff springs @ the last event. This was from his on track observation of the car before the new shocks were installed. I asked him why he had come to that conclusion. His response, "Your car is bouncing all over the track!". We compared spring rates/swaybars. It turns out we are running lower rates than he is. Just in case anyone missed it above, the trampoline effect is gone!

Shooting for 600F/1000R. :sideways:
Good strategy for me apparently means showing up at every race with zero practice in a completely different car
