I just put my turbo kit onto my Type R. I am rolling around w/ open downpipe. Would I be able to hear pinging over my exhaust?

Everything on my car is bone stock. Timing, spark plugs, etc. except for the parts in the DRAG Gen III kit. I know I have a high compression motor. I am running 6psi and hear absolutely no signs of any detonation or problems.

So how loud is Detonation/pinging??

 

U probably might not hear it over your open downpipe,Sometimes Pinging is hard to detect even with just a regular performance exhaust, so with an open down pipe it will be even harder to detect, however @ 6 psi, given that everything is stock and you are running good fuel, I think the chances of pinging or detonation is slim, however if U have a hunch or u think U might have heard pinging, have it checked by a professional, the little U will spend now on tuning will prevent a much larger headache later on.

 

u can also chk for signs of detonation by checking your plugs, if there are any lil pits on them chances are your detonating. my car had detonation and i couldn't really hear anything, i pulled my plugs to change them to a lower heat range and noticed some tiny pitting. no prob's now.

 

I have been running 8lbs for over a year now with my drag3 type r with no detonation, so I don't see why you would have any. Get the J&S safegaurd, then you wont have to worry and you can turn up the boost. Thats what I am doing because I am ready for more.

 

u might wanna retard the timing a degree or two just to be on the safer side..
