Default what motor to buy for a fully built all motor set up in my 4th gen

Looking for a good motor to build to run a n/a setup. Antone have times and list your setup please. Im thinking LS (non vtec) , B18c1, B16a1, or a B20?

For the price do you think the jdm B16a1 is a good motor to build high compression or a usdm LS with high compression? I just think if i got a B16a instead of a B18c i would have an extra $1,500+ to put into it right away but what do you all think? I know the B20 is cheep

I don't want to step on any all motor B16 guys...but if you're working on an all motor setup, start with something bigger. W/O forced induction, the B16 needs ALOT more work in the torque department.

Good comment ! I would suggest a B18 of some sort. Im partial to VTEC myself. It is a bit more streetable than a LS with large cams. I would Also invest in a hondata or engine management of some sort, if I were going to be running high compression and large cams as well.

I dont know...... my 91 dx hatch is fully gutted and is about 1,800lbs or so. i dont want or need that much torque with the dx do i? with the stock motor at 76 whp i could spin the tires all the way to third gear and thats in 138k miles

that extra $1500 if you go with a b16a, you can send out to get sleeved, so a b16a block sleeved with an 85mm bore with very nice rod ratio and high compression will yield very nice results and good torque too, I'm sure you can pull 150 in torque from a b16a bore out to 1,8 liters ... plus it will make incredible hp as it will make good tq at high rpm, the disadvantage being low displacement.

Also,, figure $800 to sleeve and $800 for rods and pistons so thats $1600 plus maybe labor if you can;t do it.

In the long run, there really is no replacement for displacement.

Take an H22A and build it, then take a B16 and build it identically, and you're going to yeild more power out of an H22.

Same with a 350. If I take my little 2.4 liter H22 and put it against a 350 thats been well built and turbo'd on high boost, not a chance in the world I could take that car.

The bigger motors simply move more air and fuel. And that's what making power all boils down to.

for a good all motor plateform to build on I'd say any 1.8 dohc vtec.

The B16 is cool too but what ever fits your buget.

I'm partial to the displacement advantage myself. Although I would prefer the B series over the H series. So I would go with a B20/VTEC.

i agree with her, and go in depth a lil more..

with a b16, ur gonna want a b18 cuz the b16 is a torqless wonder, i dont care how fast some one claims their b16 went in watever car, the b18 will do it faster with the same mods

unless u really want "props" and "braggin rights" for running a non vtec motor, then do a nonvtec, but for practicality and real reasons, go vtec, better gas milage, more pratical streetablilty, and it will have potential to be faster
