sohc vtec question

Default sohc vtec question

i just got a vtec head for my 99 dx. if i got a vtec controller do i still need toget a vtec solenoid and an ecu? also could i just put on the head and be cool to drive for a bit with out hooking up vtec?

you're cool driving without vtec hooked up. The selenoid should come with the head...if not...you'll be losing all your oil

i got it off ebay. i knew it didnt come with the solenoid. but could a vtec controller replace a vtec solenoid and a new ecu? if not what type of ecu is good? an ex?

No. You cannot replace the vtec solenoid with a vtec controller. The Ex ecu would be ideal.

Look on your head at the passengers side end there will either be this thingy with a green cylindrical top or a giant hole where that doohicky should be. If there is a giant hole get a solenoid and hook it up. To get VTEC to work you will need either a VTEC ecu or a vtec controller like a VAFC. Make sense?

You need the vtec solenoid.... Without it the head swap is useless.....

The solenoid should be on your passenger side of you head.
