when to change spark plugs--CR???
when my motor was re-built...i was told that i needed to run a colder plug as my CR was raised. stock b16a uses a platinum tipped plug (hot). i was told to run ngk: ZFR5F-11 b/c it's a little colder. i only went from 10.4:1 up to 11:1-2ish:1.
my question is this...am i losing any microscopic amount of power from switching to this colder plug? is it necessary?
my only train of thought was....what spark plug does a stock jdm b18c run?....since it is rated at 11.1:1 cr. any thoughts much appreciated.

I'd follow the builders advice to the tee...
You're not going to lose any performane and if you do it's only so you don't get detonation... which is NOT worth any gain in power... much less a tiny one if any.

You are going the wrong way if you want a colder plug. The higher the number, the colder the plug. So a 5 plug would be hotter than stock. You want a 7 plug. BKR7E-11 work just fine for this app.

agreed.
i am CURIOUS if i'm not running the stock plug if i did LOSE any minute level of power possibly, depending on what the stock b18c runs.
people always advertise that certain plugs made more power than the stockies, but they were ususally on very highly tuned applications, if you read the fine print. i'm thinking of the iridium plugs and such.
what is the stock plug# in reference to the ZFR5F-11...i'd like to see them side by side. i thought the 11 determined how "hot/cold" the plug was....

The 11 determines the gap on the plug from the manufacturer. The 5, 6, or 7 is the heat range. BKR6E-11 are the copper replacements for B series motors. Some people use BCPR6E-11 as well. 7's are colder though
