well hoping it's a complete stock engine without anything missing, the easiest visual way is by looking at the intake manifold. the b18c is a two stage intake manifold where in the b18c5 its a single stage mainfold. just my .02

The easiest way is to look how the block was stamped. The JDM type R is stamped B18C, the USDM GSR is stamped B18C1 and the USDM type R is stamped B18C5. Other then that, would be to look at the intake manifold.

well my jdm gsr block is stamped b18c. another easy way is all over the head and block on a jdm it will say p73 for the type r and p72 for the gsr

LOL. Yeah, this is how you tell.
First give away is red valve cover. next, the intake manifold, the gsr looks like an upside down b16 manifold. third, i believe its stamped pr3 on the head.

it will say PR3 on the head... not P73... I was wanting to find this out for myself, and as for the BLOCKS only it is verrrry difficult, since they are the same exact block on the outside, just the internals are diff. Unless you can pull the head and take a look at what is stamped on the pistons... JDM GSR will say P72-00 on he piston and a JDM ITR will say P73-00 (this might be what the guy was meaning, but you cant see this without pulling the head...

The fact of the matter is, if someone wanted to sell you a JDM GSR motor and put a PR3 head it would be nearly impossible to know for sure... The heads are easy to tell, but a dyno will definatly show a difference in the two blocks...

easiest way to tell the diff. b/w a b18c sirG and type r aside from the head and intake mani, is the header.

4-2-1 as apposed to the R 4-1
