Default b18c block identification

I have a friend that just bought a 00 civic Si with a b18c swap. The place that he bought it from told him it was a Integra Type R motor but on the block stamp all it says it b18c and under that the engine code is 2004549. Is that a GSR motor or a Type R
thanks
Matt

b18c = jdm type-r
b18c1 = usdm gsr
b18c5 = usdm type-r

Look at the intake manifold...probably the easiest way to tell. Yes they couldve put a skunk2 on there, but I doubt it.

i remember hearing something about the first number in the serial code can denote whether or not the jdm b18c motor is type r or not. if i recall correctly... the 2 does denote it is a type r... but i might need some verification on this.

well it does not pull like I thought it would. We went for a ride in it then came back and I took him for a ride in my b16 CRX and and he could not beleive that my crx pulled harder than his Civic? I think the revlimiter is at 8600. It has a Type R intake manifold. So I am stumped?

look at the intake manafold

the r will come up from the bottom, the gsr will bend twards the bottom.
does it have a red valve cover?
whats it redline at?
if its a jdm R it should have 4-1 header with a 2.5 collector
also ive heard that on the head rightr bhind the dizzy the Rs have green paint there for some reason (dont quote me on this)

it has the R intake manifold
The valvecover is wrinkle red not spray paint
I don't know what redline is but his fuel cutoff is 8600 I think
I really did not look that closely at the exhaust manifold
I did not see any green paint anywhere

Shouldn't a b18c5 in a 00 Civic Si pull harder than my b16 91 CRX Si?

just look at the head, if its stamped pr3 then is a R. if its stamped p72, its a gsr, end of story

In theory yes, are you running a stock b16? Being a jdm motor no ones really knows the past life of the motor, or the condition. Has a compression or leakdown test been done yet
