Tach needle is bouncing around

Tach needle is bouncing around

The tach is bouning around,and sometimes doesn't work at all. Car is a 96 EX with LS/Vtec. Any ideas what to check?

Igniter might be going bad.

Yeah, check your ignitor.

was the cluster ever taken out?
if so, some screws might be loose

it happened to my buddy's temp gauge (working & not working)

The ignitor is inside the distributor. It has four? wires going to it. It's held to the housing with two small screws.

yup. easiest thing is to take the distributor off, remove the cap and rotor, then unscrew the plate holding it down, remove the wires, then put the new one in and reverse the steps. good luck; just did it to mine so i know.
