Help! Mis shift = bent valves, notchy tranny
Friday night I went drag racing. First run i did ok, 14.4, not my best, but decent. second run, got up to 3rd gear, 8400 rpms, shift to what i thought was 4th gear...however, much to my dismay, it ended up being 2nd. tach went down, way past 10k RPM. Car runs fine (drove 45 miles home), idles a little funny, i know i bent a valve or 2 in the #3 cylinder. but the trannys been really notchy since then, when i go to shift into any gear, not just second, it feels like there's a little gate there and i have to pull harder than usual to get it in gear, when i do a clutchless shift however, it just glides into gear. I don't think it's the syncros, since it's all the gears and i don't think one misshift could mess up ALL the syncros. could it possibly be the clutch? any input is GREATLY appreciated..thanks.
Could be your input shaft bearing. This same thing happened to my buddies 00 py Type-R and the dealership had to rplace the Input bearing
I sorta did the same thing...My rpms reached very close to 10k rpms. Luckily nothing happened to the internals of my engine...knock on wood. Thanks to the quick reflex of putting the clutch done, i may have saved my *** on paying for a new engine. I had a compression test done, #'s are somewhat low. The dealership didn't open up the head to check out the internals, cuz they said they didn't have a reason to. Of course, that's cuz i didn't tell them that i misshifted. I just told them i couldn't get it into gear. They told me that my clutch failed. The dealership did replace the clutch and pressure plate under warranty. Your car would be running like **** if you bent any valves...or idle funny.
Do you have a check engine light?
Do you have a check engine light?
had a check engine light, but a guuy at the track told me that he did the same thing on his r, he reset the computer and it ran fine, so i tried it, havne't got the check engine light back since.
