Default advice for Turbo

I am lookin to get more power in my car. I am thinking about turbo-ing my 97 accord lx. I want to know if it is a good idea if i only run about 6-10 psi. Please let me know

yeah that sounds right, i would also get an oil cooler and 2.5"-3" from the turbo on back exhaust wise, and have it tuned good

well, our motors have pretty low compression 8.8:1 is like almost perfect turbo compression, i would just do a copper headgasket and do some good tuning, and possably a cam to liven things up a bit...

Glad you are going to turbo your '97 LX. My friend has the same car and has been pondering the idea for a while. How much hp will you get from 6psi? Well that all depends on the turbo you get. Different turbos will have different flow characteristics.. expect lower hp levels on a T25, or T3 compared to a T04/T3. You really shoudln't worry too much about "how much psi you can run.." because its really the output of the turbo that puts the stress on the engine.

For example: (numbers are for making a point.. not actual dyno'd numbers)
Lets say you make 190 hp to the wheels on a T3-Super 60 at 6psi.
If you were to swap out the turbo and put in a T04/T3, you can expect 220 hp to the wheels at 6psi. This is because the T04/T3 puts out more cfm than the T3-Super 60.

Find out exactly which turbo you want to get.. then you can figure out what max hp you can make at a safe boost level.

Btw, do you have an auto tranny? My friend does but he's wondering if the added power of a turbo will tear up the tranny.?

turbos and autos don't mix well i'm afraid. my friend has a ls integra, it was a turbo auto at about 8 psi (his engine is built), after about 6 months of driving, some hard some normal, he couldn't use reverse. he then swichted to manual. i'm not sure but i think he had a torque converter, i know he had an lsd. supposedly Level10 can make a prelude tranny handle the power fr a jackson racing supercharger so i don't see why they wouldn't be able to work on our tranny's.

auto is only good for low rpm torque monsters like v8's and other special cases, if it is an auto, id toss it out the window

I know he is looking to put a turbo on his 97, but has anyone seen a turbo manifold for a 98 or newer? I have searched high and low and can't find one anywhere!
