Where is my oil going??
Hey guys,
After performing my first oil change since getting my '94 Teg (no this is not the first oilchange its had - I'm the second owner!!!
) and changing to Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-50, I've noticed I'm losing a little oil. The level on the dipstick drops to about halfway between the dots after two weeks. There doesnt seem to be any leaks, although there has been a dot or two on the driveway a couple of times (not always), but not enough to account for the oil loss. There is no oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil. When I got the car (4months/6000miles ago) a compression test was done - results 210, 200, 200, 210 - which is OK from what I've read. Where is my oil going?? I do tend to drive the car relatively hard - could this be the reason - or is the oil I'm using too thin?? I know the guy at the Honda dealership said Mobil 1 would be too thin ... but I suspect he was just trying to flog off the Honda FEO oil to me.
Thanks for any help
Mike

how many miles does your car have? synthietic oil is great for new cars, but in an older motor, it will find every little leak imaginable. i would say try running non-synthetic oil on your next oil change. I'd suggest using valvoline, it's what they guys at both the Honda and the Acura dealership here in town use and suggest.

Thanks slickboy,
My car has almost 90000km (about 56k miles I think). I ran the same oil in my old 85 civic (100k+ miles) and never had a problem. Maybe I'll try the Honda lubricants next time ... almost due for my next service.
