Default Called everyone.....

Well, I decided to get my own answers for the whole break in issue...I had read a lot about people saying that it was good to beat on your car for break in, and then other people saying just the opposite.

After reading the Tech segement on Darton's website, then calling them, Golden Eagle, AEBS, JE, Toda(AKH trading), and Endyn, they pretty much all said that the whole beat on your car for break in, is not a good idea. Though the term break in seemed to have differnt meaning for all of them.

When I called JE, they definitely had the most knowledgable staff, and they told me, bottom line, by the time you start the car, and get it to opperating temp, that the rings were pretty much seated, and that in the time it took you to drive to the dyno, that you'd be ok. He did say waite for at least 500 miles till you switch to synthetic though.

Everyone else pretty much said just do what the factory recomends. Toda said to use a lot of assembly lube, and as soon as you start it, let it idle at 2500 rpm for about a minute, in order to properly break in the cam shafts.

It seems that no one really has a definite sure fire answer, but they all do seem to agree that it doesn't take long to break it in, and that beating on it just after it was built, serves little or no purpose...

Any constructive comments or suggestion welcome...

Aj

I've looked around quite a bit also, but everyone has their own opinions. I recently got my car back on the road again, and did the same thing this time, that I did in the past: tried to never let it sit at one RPM point, even at stoplights, giving it some gas so the needle would keep moving, never "cruised" on the freeway, kept giving it gas to build RPM, then allowed the car to slow itself down while in gear. So far so good, about 400 miles.

I am convinced that there is no one "real" answer.

Fact is, both techniques have produced both excellent and lousy results. Go with what you feel comfortable with.

This is just a comment, I don't know but, I've seen race teams put together motors during a race, fill them up with oil, drop it in the engine bay and beat the crap out of it without even letting it to get to the normal operation temperature. The motor last the whole race without problem....uhmmm, maybe is the type of oil they use $$...

Yeah, and actually, when we put a new motor in our track car, we take it for a warm up lap, bring it in, change the oil, and then beat on it...all that being said, race teams, don't expect longevity out of their motors, they just want to get through the race, and I'm not looking for it to break on me a couple thousand miles from now....Here are some pics of my old block, and you'll understand why I'm so apprehensive:
