Default Tial Wastegate question Regarding Electronic Boost Controller Hookup (AVCR)

I just finished my turbo setup and I have a question on the wastegate hook up to my Apexi AVCR. I have the right ports on the solenoid valve I know for sure but not sure exactly how it hooks to the wastgate. I have the COM port from the solenoid valve hooked to the top port of the wastegate. The side port of the wastegate is hooked to nothing. It is open to the atmosphere. Does this need to be also hooked to a vacuum source? If so, does it matter where from?

The reason I was asking it I have been boosting way over what I want it to and it scared me a little. It is a .45 bar spring that was boosting at .75 even with the boost controller completely off. (using wastegate spring)!!!

Thanks for the help guys.

Brad

If you don't have the apex'i manual they have them all on on their website

Page 48 shows it for actuator type wastegates (Internal) not external so that doesn't help. Unless I am missing something.

ya that bottom port needs to see a vac source. Also make sure that the AVCR solenoid is seeing a good source as well. I had my solenoid hooked up to a bad vac source and I was seeing spikes.

FYI: The nipple on the turbo is not a source for vaccum. It will only see boost.

Wow, you are lucky I was looking tonight. The com port of the solenoid valve goes to the top port of the wastegate. The NC port of the solenoid valve connects to a vacuum source. The side port of the wastegate also needs a vacuum source.

i like to attach the side port to the brake booster vacuum line, it is a very strong source.

right now i have all my sources on the brake booster line. its teed off to a smaller tee. and the pressure sensor has its own source on the mani. the side port of my wastegate comes from the brake booster and so does my BOV. my top port of my wastegate comes from a brass barb on my IC piping after the IC. it seems as if my wastegate isnt opening any more. im afraid to full throttle it. could it be that the vacuum line to the side of the wastegate is too long? the brass barb is REAL close to the boost solenoid as well. should be real responsive. from the COM part of the boost solenoid the vacuum line is about 2 feet though. any ideas guys? i dont wanna blow my motor...

also i turned the duty down, and still does the same. i even turned the boost controller to OFF mode it still does this.

I am confused because you have the top port of the WG connected to the IC piping. This should only be connected to the AVCR. Can you draw a diagram of how you have everything hooked up?

sorry i cant really draw out a diagram, but ill lay it out as clear as possible.

ok...

-brass barb on IC piping (after IC) ---> boost solenoid (NC) fitting
-boost solenoid (COM) fitting ---> top of tial
-brake booster ---> side of tial
-brake booster ---> BOV
-intake manifold fitting ---> boost pressure sensor

im wondering if the line from the brake booster to the side of the tial is too long it will have drastic effects with boost spikes? seems like the wastegate doesnt open at all anymore. god, it feels good, but its scary.

OK, I don't think this is your problem but you need to have the NC port attached to a vacuum source otherwise it only sees positive pressure.
Hose length makes a minimal difference. Mine are longer than yours I am sure and it works fine.

Are you sure the correct WG spring is in it?

ok, ill try to work with the vacuum lines and such. the wg spring should be correct. ive boosted without the ebc and i maxed boost at like .43 bar on a cold night. other times its either low to high .3s... the spring is .45 bar. thanks for your help man. ill see what happens.

i just found out another thing too...

instead of the NC port to be used, i think im using the NO port. i wonder if this is also the case of why its doing this. anyway, will let u guys know wassup tomorrow.

That will do it. You can tell it is in the correct port if both ports used are directly across from each other (directly inline). If your ports are at a 90 degree angle, then it isn't hooked up right.

fixed! thanks a lot ladysman.

now all i gotta do is dial it in so that it will hold at my desired boost level. gotta play with the duty cycle, and learn how to fully use this thing.

Cool!!!

Now, I would first let it "learn" your boost. Set your desired boost level then go out and drive it for a while. In the duty, you should see ***. This means its in learning mode. To watch it adjust itself, just hit the right arrow key and start driving.
There are many more features, I just haven't had time to set them yet.

Good luck.
