Default Oil Light Flashing....

I posted about this awhile back, but it's been doing it more lately, and i started delivering pizzas at dominos and i've learned a lot about how my car acts. Here's the prob:

when braking and coming to a stop, the oil light flickers. it will sometimes continue to flicker after coming to a stop, and usually will start flashing every 1/2 seconds on and off if it flickers after coming to a stop. It will not stop flashing until i restart the car. It might be more prone to doing it when stopping uphill/downhill, but i have not been able to confirm that yet. I have an oil pressure guage, and it will flicker when the oil pressure's fine, like over 15psi. If it flickers after coming to a stop, I try revving to raise the press. to see if that's the prob, but it keeps flickering, and it almost always starts the flashing thing. What could it be? What is the difference if the light just flickers and if it steadily flashes? And yes, I make sure the oil is full, so it's not a lack of oil. Any ideas?

short in the wiring? i would have that double checked though... dont want your motor siezing up because you dont have enough oil going through all the internals.

I have a friend whos car did that, a month later he blew the engine. He always checked his oil after he noticed the light but was it was always pretty close to full. After we tore it down we found that his oil pump had busted. I hope for your sake its not that, but its just a thought

but why would the oil pump go like that, and the oil light only flashing when decelerating? I may have to check that, though

that's what I was going to say. Check the pump, i bet your pressure is too low. When a light is on, it means something's wrong and to get it checked. When the light is flashing, that means you better be damn close to a fix it shop because something is about to quit working

once your oil presure drops below the min and even if it comes back up then the light will flash. if the light goes solid u better turn that key off as fast as possible becasue that means 0psi of pressure. heres another thing to think about. you said you have a oil pres gauge. and you think everything looks good. well im assuming you T'd off the back of you engine to run the oil pres gauge right?. make sure that you didn't get anything in the stock oil pres sending unit, i almost did this but noticed that some of the sealing tape i was using was blocking the stock sending unit.

first and fore most keep a constant eye on your oil pres, i have a gauge too and my presure drops to about 10 psi when the car is really warm at idle. and i never get an oil light. you might want to check teh stock sneding unit. and make sure that you have anough oil obviously

yeah,i've been watching the press. gauge like a hawk lately, but it never drops below about 9-10 psi. I know the sending unit isn't blocked, so i'm gonna replace it within this week and see what happens. If that doesn't help, then i'm stumped....i don't think it's the pump b/c the pressure never drops on the gauge, just the light flashes.

I did the infamous 3-2 shift at the track one time and revved to like 9,000 for a brief moment. The check oil light came on about 10 second later. I have a built head and stock bottom end. I thought I must of thrown a bearing. Didn't want to take a chance, so I had it towed to the shop. They said I had a bad sensor. The light has came on 2-3 times over the last year for no reason when I was just driving easy around town.

Maybe I should check my oil pump to.

All i got to say is that i had oil in my car, ie: the dipstick, and my oil lihgt would come on and the vtec would get week. i drove it for a full day, then took it to the shop. they noticed a funny noise comming from behind the headers. it ended up being my oil pump wasnt delivering to full capacity, which would not affect an oil gauge because of where you tap it in. but over all i ended up warping the balncing shafts and spent like 1400 dollars have the bottom rebuilt! so good luck! id borrow a car from someone an have it towed to the shop and checked out!

Why do you say that a failing oil pump would not show on a oil press. guage? How can it delivre enough pressure to show on the gauge, but it also makes the sensor light up, even though it's just on the other end of the tee! I don't think the place you tee it has much to do w/ it, but hey, prove me wrong!

Oh, and it hasn't been doing it for a day and a half now.....ugh. Maybe it will stop for a while, like last time. I bought a new sensor and am goin to replace it soon, but i was hoping to see if the problem went away after that!
