Default Oil consumption H22

Hey, my '98 prelude is consummin' approximatly 1L/1500Km and my car has only 100 000km on it. Anyone of you guys have the same $/"/%$$% problem?? I went to the dealership they have done some stuff on the head of the engine.. changing valve seal, head gasket and stuff like that but I've still got the same kindda of problem. I know that Prelude engine is suppose to take a certain amount of oil (cuz it uses 4 oil jet in each cylinder in order to lubrificate the piston at high rev) but I just wanna know if I'm the only one who's tired of this issue with H22 and if you have the same problem!!

i had my motor rebuilt. and it now is consuming the same amount of oil as before. but i did switch to total seal rings. are you still using stock rings. i did get it compression tested and have 210 on all 4, which is really good for stock piston and new rings with nearly 60000 miles on it. so tested it you might have weak piston rings. i suggest sticking with stock rings if you have too.

Well ya ... still have the stock pistons and rings but the compression test is really good... so, I dont know if it's really a problem related to some defect in the engine itself (gasket, seal or rings prob, ) or if it is the normal comsumption of H22 engine...!

yes actually i just bought my prelude engine is in absolutely perfect condition, i have done a compression check and **** and i also have this problem. I believe it is something to do with the type of oil i was using Mobil 1 synthetic, because as soon as i changed to 10 w 30 the problem stopped. The mechanics have said this was my problem and my father being and engineer said "Well im f@#% if i know?", it is a mystery to me but changing from a synthetic to a non synthetic solved my problem.

mine drinks it... and seems to be more with mobile 1. 102,000 miles on it now, but i'm really thinking about just going with Type S pistons and staying NA for Auto-X'ing

i am using mobil oil still just non-synthetic and this has fixed the problem, has anyone got any ideas as to what this is? because i would like to use mobil 1 synthetic in future as everyone seems to use that or other synthtic oil on a h22a!

This seems to be a common problem on the 5th gens. I don't know what the problem is, but I've heard several:
1. Oil going though the rings (some people claim that between years X and Y, they used crap rings and then after year Y, the used different brand of rings).
2. The oil spray hypothesis as a previous poster mentioned.
3. Not breaking the engine in properly when the car was new - some guys say they've babied the car when new and it's still using oil.
4. I've also hear that if you run synthetic, you'll notice more oil consumption.
5. Also hear if you hit VTEC all the time, you'll notice more oil consumption.
6. Oil is going through the pcv valve and getting lost...

Very mysterious problem.... I can't prove or disprove or even elaborate much further on the above theories. I asked a guy on another board about other Hondas with VTEC and this guy owns an S2000 and he said that even those cars (a high percentage) consumes oil. My friend with an 2001 Integra GSR with VTEC uses just a tad oil (measured on the dipstick) when he drives 5000KM between oil changes. He hits VTEC probably an average of 8 times a week.

yes well im driving a 4th gen and in the first wekk i had it before i started shitting myself about the oil consumption i was hitting v-tec like 50 - 100 times a day, was on holiday had to get used to car, on the open road, anyways thats going no where, so that could be an explanation to my problem, also that could be another reason why it is not burning so much now. thank you very much for your help, much appreciated and has put my mind to rest, what sorta fuel economy you guys get outer your h22a's?
