Sohc turbo.....what exhaust are you using??
I am about to turbo my d16 and I hate the Greddy SP exhaust that came with the car. I love the oval ES which I had on my previous vehicle, would this exhaust flow enough for my turbo application.
BTW I have a turbo axle back apexi N1 in my garage right now, but its big and loud.
In a nutshell, what would be my best bet for a quite, yet power gaining exhuast?
maybe use the greddy piping and cut off the muffler and weld on the ES oval? or sell the greddy and run new piping to the ES (im thinking 2.5")

i've got custom dp 2.5 inch mandrel bends to 2.5 inch carsound cat to greddy evo. make absolutely no noise whatsoever (just a low hum at idle) i actually hear road noise now after putting on the turbo. i was thinking about just getting some more 2.5 inch mandrel bends and a resonator and that's it and taking the evo off since it's not truely 2.5 inch.
and this is on what kind of turbo. im sure it doesnt make a difference but just curious.
and do you think that the apexi N1 would give considerible gains in power yet still be quite??

I use a custom 3" system with no cat, no resonator, to a 3" Flowmaster Deltaflow 40 muffler. It is very deep, very throaty, and when I get on it the sound is more similar to a race car than a street car lol. I like it though, it is the TOTAL opposite of my stock exhaust sytem! This one FLOWS!!!
im runnign a custom 3 inch all the way back to a magnaflow es oval style muffler. its quite around town but very loud when i get on it.

fmaxturbochic, how much boost do you plan to go up to? How much do you run now? Going to 3" is a smart idea if not for power reasons, but because the exhaust tone will be deeper than with a 2.5" setup. A deep tone is usually more tolerable to people than a higher pitched one, even at the same decibel level.
thats true, the only problem is I am selling my greddy SP exhaust for a ES oval exhaust, and I will have to run NA for a few months till I turbo it, 3" may be too large, i think 2.5" will be better
I plan on daily driven 9psi, race days 15ish psi.
So you reccommend 3"? Im not bothered by noise, I had this exhaust before I went turbo, I just dont want it ear deafening.

Crap, I wish I lived in CA, sounds like a deal (though I'd have to dork with it on my car).
Right now I'm running 2.25 crush bent with a REALLY nice Borla "Turbo" muffler...the thing is straight-through and sinfully quite...however, the crush bends/stock cat really kill the top end and it's just generally too small anyway...a remnants of my modest NA days...

Yes, for 9psi daily and up to 15psi you will want a 3" for sure. For low boost, such as 5-7psi max, 2.5" would be alright. Over that much, the benefits of 3" make it the better choice.

how bad would by NA performance be with a 3" exhaust. Because I will have to put the exhaust onto the stock block for 2 months before I turbo my car. (the car has no exhaust after the cat right now)
I have the apex N1 catback system on my car. Cat is gone, just a piece of heavy duty flexpipe. You said the N1 was too loud, is this with or without the turbo? Before I put the turbo on it was way too loud, but it is a lot more guiet now.
In the future I will go with a 3" from the turbo all the way back and keep the N1.

Go to http://www.jegs.com and look through their muffler section. I think Magnaflow might make a quiet muffler.
