I just got my electrical oil temp gauge, and I'm looking to hook it up. I was thinking of just drilling a hole in my oil pan and welding on the matching nut and screw in the sending unit.

Is this a good idea, or bad idea? I don't know much about how the electrical gauges work; I saw a couple of threads about them grounding out. What are the guidelines for these things?

My OEM oil sensor is kinda screwed, so I could just buy the adapter and put it in there. I'd rather do it from the oil pan because that's a bit more along the lines of what I want.

use the hole near the distributor. its a 12mm bolt with 10mm thread, right above the left most exhaust manifold stud. works fine. use silicone too, so it wont leak.

I used the one on the back of the head, and I used teflon tape. Seems to have sealed very well.

Now I just have to figure out why the car sat overnight, but immediatley upon turning the key the gauge read 150F... pretty sure my oil wasn't 150 degrees after sitting overnight... I think... right?

 

make sure the sender is grounded and the guage itself is grounded. if not, it bounces around. the teflon tape may not have grounded it properly.
