Default Quick and easy question...A/C related

My A/C stopped working today...I turned on my car, proceeded to turn on the A/C, then realized it wasn't blowing cold air; it blows, but the temp of the air is the same as the fan. When I depress the A/C button I can tell the A/C system is activated; my RPM's move up a little then drop again and my engine makes a little different sound. Is it out of coolant? Just wondering because Texas is freaking hot right now and I don't need to be rolling around with manual A/C...especially if females are riding with me

A/C troubleshooting is tough. It could be a lot of things and it's even hard to tell when you have the right tools/gauges. When mine stopped working I thought it was low. I was right because it all leaked out the hole in my compressor. It had seized up.

As long as the motor isn't bogging/overheating when the A/C is on and the compressor isn't kicking on and off excessively then I'd venture to say it's low on freon. Some places do free A/C checkups, try looking around.

COOLANT???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

there is no coolant in the AC system, refigerant yes, coolant no. troubleshooting the AC isnt really that hard, you jus need the tools and you have to know how to do it. some of the problems that i no of in an AC system that can go wrong is: AC pump, low refigerant pressure, faulty AC relay, or cooling fan jus wont turn on to take the heat away from the condenser. im pretty sure there are other things that can screw up the performance of an AC in your car, but those are some that i know of.

I'm pretty sure it's just "refridgerant" (I don't really care what the technical name for it is; coolant, refridgerant, freon; it's all the same to me ). A lot of my friends have ghetto cars so when they get in mine they blast the A/C since they don't have it in theirs...I'm going to go to some mechanic tomorrow to get it refilled.
