Some Good advice for all the new R owners
Well that is if you decide to work on your own car....
I just spent a good 45mins STRIPPING the heads off the rotor screws. You know those 2 philips screws holding the rotor down?
Out came the hammer, the WD40, the ratchet attachment for the philips....after much pounding and dousing, I figured I would get a nice twist and OH ****.... that pretty much summed it up.
I still have yet to try heat.... but that will certainly come next and the DRILL will be the last resort....
Pisses me off is why can't they use an allan type screw in there like the BMW rotors?? My buddy's race only BMW 325i saloon rotors come off in a snap....6mm allan screws!!
Nevertheless, for all you new owners with some free time....remove your wheels take off them screws and anti-seize them up good! Before you realize 4years later, THREE winters later....they are seized on and you feel your blood pressure rise!

Just curious, were you using a power drill initially or just a screw driver. I'll be taking my rotors off sooner or later and figured a power drill with a screw attachment would work ok... plus mine is a 2000 and seen 1 winter so it make not be as bad.
Thanks,
Mark

I'm SOoOO jealous you bastard Yoshi!! I will KEEL you!!
arghhh...
I tried the JDM ghetto fabulous fashion which was using a box wrench to turn this big *** screwdriver I have...then I tried it with just a ratchet attachment.
I managed only to ruin ONE side so there is still one more to try on. I'd go with Yoshi's setup or at least try your power drill!
That JDM ghetto method was detailed in one of my Civic books.... guess it was in Okinawa or some place with NO SNOW where they did that!

even a power drill w/ strip the screw. The impact screw driver is pretty much the best (only?) way to get it off. Just go to Sears and get one for about 20 bux.

I agree with sgT on this one...
thas wut I'm going to do when I finally get them out. Just ensure your wheel nuts are torqued properly and it will be no problem...!

yes yosh has it correct. the impact driver is the best solution, and when you reinstall the screw, you dont have to tighten it to hell, in fact, i suggest loosing them altogether. the wheel holds it on nicely! save weight!
Before you use the impact driver on them, trying whacking the screw heads a few times with a center punch. That seems to loosen the screw in the hole for me. That is at least the first two times I changed my rotors.
What I've found though is if you take your car to the track and heat up the rotors something fierce, those screws will never come out, even with anti-seize all over the threads. I eventually had to drill out the screw head. No biggie though since the wheel keeps the rotor on anyway.
Good luck!

no pic or p/n but the thing is pretty hefty...
it's black, about 8" long & ~1.5" in diameter
