i have a d16y8 head gasket that im putting on my d16a6 right now. which way does it go on? which side faces up? theres 3 layers to it, one black, the middle is silver, then the last layer is black/silver. which layer is pointing up towards the head?

the sliver part of the head gasket will be on the pass side and facing up

 

i cant remember...look at the gasket, there are some holes on one far side and not on the other. when you put it on the head you will see that it can only go on one way. if you really want to you can open some of the coolant holes in the y8 gasket to match the a6 gasket....but i dont know if its necessary.

i reused the head dowels...if your getting it milled the shop should be able to take them out and put them back in. depending on how much you mill you might have to remove material from the dowels.
