Default HOw high is too high to rev stock b18b on boost???

ok im loving my new revhard kit, but the power is cut short at 7000 which is redline and it sucks cause it will just pull and pull forever. . i want to get my ecu chipped only to bump it up alittle . . so what do u all think it can handle before i upgrade anything. (PS- im going vtec head next yr so i dont wanna spend $ on this LS head) so does 7500 or 8000 seem reasonable without valves and valve components floating recklessly in the head?

Dont touch your redline until you upgrade your head. Take it to 7000rpms or less.

You WILL **** something up if you go past the stock rev limit on a stock LS head.

The head could prolly take 8000rpms but I'm sure it won't last too long. You'll prolly *** up the valve train. Secondly, the B18B doesn't rev freely above the stock redline. Look at any engine that puts out torque. They all have long strokes which are great for producing torque but do not rev freely at high rpms, hence the low [6000-7000] redline. My guess is that you will either get lucky and not have any problems revving to 8000 with the stock head and rods/pistons. Or you will float your valves or spin a bearing, destroy a rod, *** up the cylinderwall, toast your rings, or melt a piston. My advice to you would be: Build it right or end up building a new engine.

Basicly all you should have to upgrade is the following........

Crower Dual-Spring valvesprings
Crower Titanium retainers
Some Nice ferra valves (keep oem size)
Bronze valve guides
& maybe invest in a set of the Crower 402t cams.

with that setup you should be able to rev to about 8000Rpm~ .....
Now keep in mind, just cause the top end can rev that high doesnt mean the bottom end will stay in tack.... I would at least invest in ARP rod bolts and head bolts and maybe a blockguard.....
Enjoy

How do you have I/H/E AND a turbo installed at the same time?

dyno your car and lets see if you really need to rev higher. ithink youd be surprised. i f you get some nicer valve springs you could go to 7500 without problem, theres no way you make power above that.

The only thing you really need to rev the **** out of your LS is some dual valve springs...........thats it. Theres many people here that can vouch for that---Jinxproof being one that will tell you.

I take my built LS to 9800 with no girdle.

UHH actually my dyno sheet here from this past weekend... my max power was still climbing when i had to let off at 7000. . so why would it just die out? this is turbo not all motor. LIke i said it jut pulled and pulled, thats why i wish i could just get a few more revs out o it

Dual springs are not too much for the stock cam?

Just boost it hard and keep it below 6800...You lose power after that on an LS..If you get injectors a fuel pump and a AFC...Boost 10psi and you'll be fine

Nah, I've had the cam out 10 times since running the springs. Cams show no signs of abnormal wear at all.
Now, as far as the cams not making power above 7000. I dont know...probably not much, then again its turbo and not n/a.

My redline is set to like 7800 rpm via Hondata. The head is completely stock. I don't have my dyno sheet handy, but power does fall off after 7k. Unless you're upgrading components (i.e. cams, springs, etc..) DON'T do it. Fooling around I went way passed 7k under boost a couple of times and I ended having a nasty *** valve tap. When I opened her up the valve lash was so off it made me cringe. The valves were probably a little loose beforehand from my shitty valve lash adjustments , but if there's no power to be made it's not worth it.

like i said my dyno sheet was climbing strong till redline. . .i dunno why itwould just die. . turbo just wants to keep pumping power out.

I reved my LS passed 7200 on a misshift once and never again will i do it. And your talking about raising it for turbo.........you should have gotten a GSR or a B16 for that matter. The honda put that rev limiter there for a reason......sorry i'm in a bad mod hearing about all these cars being stole.

I wouldn't do it.

i rev mine to 7500 daily...the motor still would have made power above 7500 too..but there's really no need to take it up to 8 grand on a stock head unless i want to break something..ls motors are cheap..fug it..

I'm thinking that no matter what head you put on it B16/B18C5 its not going to produce that much more power. The piston speeds at high RPMs are not fast enough to effectively suck in fresh charge and evacuate exhaust gas. I'm thinking you'll probablly burn up the valves, and have alot of back pressure/reversion.

I could be wrong though.

mostly its the cams. not the piston speeds, that don't allow the LS to make high rpm power. Most LS' ive seen peak torque around 5500, it falls around 6k, and by 7500 its useless. on stock head that is. Some cars are exceptions on both sides of the coin.

I rev mine to 7500 and have done so for the past 8 months. Keep a tab on those vavle adjustments I can tell you from experience. Things do get loose. With proper maintence though it will work out fine.

My whole take on the LS motor when I first started pushing it rpm and boost wise was "its cheap, why the hell not." but like theoldone says RPM's stands for Ruins Peoples Motors so if you want it to last keep them down.

at first i wanted to rev to 8k too, but after watching my buddy's blow up their b20's and b18a/b's revving to 8k+ at the tracks, I've decided that running up to 7200 is good enough for me even on a built block minus sleeves.
