I know the condition is known as 'dieseling'... unfortunately I don't know much more about it. I would think that leftover fuel that had pooled - ie from dirty fuel injectors - was dribbling into the combustion chamber and igniting somehow, possibly from hot spots, and keeping the engine running... highly doubtful though
Sorry I'm not more help except to tell you that the problem is known.

yeah the condition is called "dieseling" it's being a long time since I encountered a car that does that. dam I do know that answer to your question but I can't remember it, it's right on the tip of my tongue.

Dieseling was more common with carburators because the fuel doesn't 'turn off' like it does with injection systems. So now you have to have fuel pooled up somewhere, like in the intake manifold. That means your fuel injection system is seriously wacked out. Maybe the FPR is bad so its real rich?
It's always related to lots of carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. That provides hot spots to ignite the fuel without a spark. Higher octane gas probably helps some.

Get an alarm recently?
I know some alarms will keep your car running for a certain amount of time after you take the key out, lock and shut all doors... just thought I'd throw that up... (even though the installer will probably tell you about that)...

things to check:
-Timming! it might be advanced.
-IM gasket
-EM gasket (exhaust)
-Make sure the spark plugs you are using are the right ones (not hotter)
-The FPR just like the guy said above
Are you running rich? what other symptons you have?

Then i turned the light's off with the key out and my car shut off! i **** you not it was so fucked up i fixed some things that i had wired up wrong and it hasnt done it sence.
odd thing though
odd thing though
When I read this again, it sounds like the engine keeps running like normal idling.
Dieseling is so much different; it's so rough, knocking, coughing & spitting... It sounds like the engine is gonna come apart...
So - does it run on smoothly like a normal idle? If so, then it's got to be a remote starter or something screwed up in the wiring so the EFI & ignition are still actually turned on.
If you've got a remote starter, look at the wiring for that. Otherwise, look at the wiring connections to the ignition switch. I bet some wire connectors are touching each other. I don't have my Helm book with me; can a stuck main relay do this?

Thanks guy. I found out what was wrong. Can you guess? NOTHING
It was nothing. She lives in a dorm 2 hrs away. So I drove there just to found out that the damn fan was on when she turns it off which is normal. Goddamn women. She has that car for 2 years and can't tell if the engine is on or not. Wasted 4 hrs total just to know that.
