Can someone explain this craziness to me????
I was cruising down the road today and hit a crappy section of road that would be suitable for a trophy truck. Well, my intake fell of my turbo and I ran it over and that was the end of that intake, pipe, and filter. Anyways, I was running 10-11 psi before this happened. Now I am only hitting 6 psi. I put a rag and a clamp over the intake on the turbo now. It is very thin, almost see through. Why would that lower my boost? Nothing else was screwed up, just the intake. Would the intake really affect my boost?
Could be the amount of surface area the rag is allowing. if you would do the math a intake cone/filter has a enormouse amount of surface area i would guess about 3-4 times what yiour rag is allowing.

Doesn't matter its all going through the same sized inlet.
You might have sucked something up into the turbo. Check youe wastegate, and boost gauge.

Either the rag is restricting the turbo/being sucked in, or collapsing under the force of the vaccuum, or a charge pipe came loose. I would stop using the rag, I could see it going bad and being sucked in. I would just go spend $25 and get a cheapy cone filter at autozone and put it on, save your turbo.
reminds me of na people putting the 'powersock' on. heheh that is, putting a sock over the stock intake arm to get that throaty sound. Too bad the sock doesn't flow too well. I think your rag is choking your flow.
I would have never thought that rag would restrict it that much. I only put it on to get by until my new filter gets here. I hope when I put it back on everything is back to normal. Thanks for the input.

It does. The piping has its own restrictions, and on top of that is added the restriction of the filter. The more surface area you have, the less restrictive the filter.
