Mixing octanes

My friend has a '00 civic si, and on the gas cap it says PREMIUM UNLEADED ONLY. He filled it up with 87 Octane Unleaded Gas. Is that bad for the engine? And, he is now deciding to put premium in his car instead of Unleaded. Will it affect the car if he mixes the premium with the unleaded. Thanks.

probably not gonna hurt anything, just dont do it again.

and mixing wont hurt anything.

It can be a problem if you do it quite often, using a lower octane can cause the motor to knock.

all gasoline you use is unleaded. u meant "and, he is now deciding to put premium instead of regular"
