it adds a lil bit of a noticable difference, not you need to reset your ECU, warm the car up, shut it off, pull the fuse for the ECU (under the hood to the passenger side strut mount), wait 10-15 mins plug it back in and start the car with no gas, let it idle, that will make the adjustment to the air/fuel mix, one hing you will notcie is the noise, it will be louder then before,

am i right guys about the ecu? if not let me know, its been a whole since i have done it

I'd be inclined to think it would lose hp, since the engine will have to work harder to get at the air now. The original intake positions the air intake just below the hood line and above the bumper so air kinda gets pushed in at higher speeds.

One thing you could do is remove that air resonator I see poking up from the bottom (the other end of the y-pipe thing you were talking about). Pics and instructions are on my site if you're curious.

FYI with my B16A hybrid I'm still using the stock airbox (with a K&N air filter) and no resonator.

thats really weird..
cuz i took mine off today too.
i was just going to clean it with simple green but i decided to take it for a drive to see how it sounds.
i did notice it had a little bit more top end and it peels out into second a little bit harder.
but the air going in sounds really turbulent[sp?] expecialy in 2nd or 3rd gear at low rpm makes it sound like a 83 tercel that needs a valve job.

i also took out the bottom part of the air box and cleaned it with simple green there was a lot of dirt in there...
you have to take the battery out to get to the bolts that hold on the air box which is kinda a pain in the ***...
i was glad once i got the battery out tho.
cuz there was lot of bugs and dirt underneath there and i cleaned out the tray and the piece that shields the battery.

take off the resonator on the bottom like reaneshadow said and then get some hose dryer from your local hardware store and run it to your front grill to the opening on the intake, for a cheap ram air kit! Lil tip, you dont want that sucka to be on there so tight that there is no air escaping, some guys try to get it so tight to their intakes that it creates full suction and theres no air escaping, if you were to drive around and get that sucka submerged in water, youd be screwed, however the chances of that happening is highly unlikely but its best to be on the safe side.

Hmm, I'd advise that you remove the whole stock intake and get a CAI...(make sure you get a setup that you can remove the lower part of if you live in a wet climate!

Yeah im with 90CivicEX but why buy one when you can make one for like under 70 bucks and itll be identical to the aem one. All you gotta do is get the U bend pipe from jcwhitney cut it and attach a cone filter, get some rubber hose connectors from home depot and drill and tap for the vacuum. and your set. dirt cheap and itll even flow better if you painthe inside and out side with heat resistant paint.

On my CRX, I put a Radio Shack indoor/outdoor temp gauge in it. The outside part I put in the air box. Leaving that air horn thing on, the temp started climbing way out of sight. Seems to pull to much hot air from the exhaust manifold area. Took it off, and the temp started to drop. Usually runs 10 - 20 degrees hotter then outside temp. I also drilled a bunch of 1/2 inch holes on the front of the resonater box, which is probably helping too. Really need to get a CIA....
