Launching techniques for quarter mile?
A lot of people launch at a lower RPM but i find that doing this tends to bog the engine down and you end up getting a shitty 60 foot. Hard on the car but this is what i do. Rev to about 5500-6000 RPM dump the clutch floor it and go, if you get to much wheel spin feather the gas a bit until it hooks up, then floor it . I get consistant 2.0-2.1 60 foot times with a set of BFG Drag radials and 2.2-2.3 60 foot times on stock tires. Good luck. Just my 2 cents.

Every car will be different. Techniques that work for the ITR may not work as well for other cars, in this case the RSX. Trial and error should be your guide but what typer694 said should be a good starting point.
typer694, how does the overall ET and trap speed for dumping the clutch at 6K compare with riding the clutch at 4K (the conventional method)?

Who's the master of launching fwd cars?

5,500, feather the clutch. 2.2 60' on the stock tires is good.
With a 2.0 on slicks/drag radials, you are at 14.0@98 range, give or take a few tenths.

Reid,
I will be joining you folks for the first time on the 29th. Colin was the sales person that sold me Type S and we got into talking about the autocross. I got other friends that frequently attends those meets. So I'll give it a shot.
Please look for me when I get there so I can introduce myself.

Ross and MPH. Well I have never been a big fan of riding the clutch, a little wheel spin isn't always a bad thing( just my opinion) i have never had good 60 foot times launching at anything below 5500 rpm's. As for the BFG's there not bad. I am thinking about selling mine, they just don't get used that often and i am tired of looking at them sitting in my garage. My best 1/4 time to date is a 14.850 at 94.28 mph with a 2.184 60 foot time and a .555 reaction time. Not that great, but not that bad either considering that the elevation here is over 4000 feet above sea level and the highest octane fuel available is 90
. I have seen four other type r's run at the drag strip and none of them could run faster than a mid 15 second 1/4 mile. But trust me it is still fast for the area considering that new mustangs and camaros are running high 14 and low 15 second 1/4 mile times, and some supercharged mustangs are only running high 13 to low 14 second 1/4 mile times. Elevation and low octane gas really do seem to have a negative effect on every bodys times. I would love to see what my car would run with some sunoco 94 or higher back in good old MD where i am origanaly from and elevation is not an issue at MIR! Maybe i will see you guys some time when i move back!
Sorry Ross i just noticed that you are from MA and not MD. My mistake, MPH and TypeR0207 are both from MD. Who knows maybe we will still meet someday at some event on the east cost when i get back there! Later.

Hey rsx.type.s. If you take your car to the drag strip once it is broken in let us know how you do. I am curious to see what sort of times those things run compared to the ones in the magazines. Nice avatar by the way.
Yes, typer694...I love her too.
I'll keep you all posted after I get clocked.

1.9 on michelins. I think I hold the record on the fasest 60ft on the shittiest tires. LOL
I dont' look at the RPM when I launch. You really have to feel the car and how it will respond to your driving. Suspension, tire pressure, tire combo, wieght of car and your driving skill all takes part of the process. There isn't one exact way to launch a fwd car. I think the best way is to go out and do it. Practice, makes perfect.

ok I'm confused, dump or feather, which one is better for street racing? I personally dump it at around 4.5-5 and I have this nice bog where the clove compartement opens up and off I go ehe.
