Default Can I take my fuel pump out of my 89 HB with out droping the tank?

Hi all,
New to the board here.
I was told by a Honda mechanic that I could take it out from underneath the back seat but the lame *** Chilton manual said I had to drop the tank? has anyone ever done this them self's?

Thanks in advance

on the 88-91 civic HB. YOU MUST DROP THE TANK to remove the fuel pump. dont swap pumps untill your tank is empty. even then, the tank will still be about 50 pounds. help is highly recomended, extra jack. tank is held on by to straps with 12 mm bolts.

U can only remove the fuel pump from under the seat on 92+ civic and 94+ integ .
