***Is a B17a good for boosting???***
I'm talking about a stock internals B17a....is it a good motor for boost (maybe better than a B16 because of the B17's lower compression)?? THANX!
i heard it was good for boosting because of the already stock low compression.
the r/s ratio isn't bad. it is 1.64 which is better than b18's but worse than b16's, so i don't see how it could be bad. a b16 has 1.75 or something so it's not that different. so i think it would be a good boost platform.

Bad Bad Bad idea! I had an original gsr with the B17A engine it and threw a rod around 130,000 miles. The connection rods don't withstand a lot of force. The cranks however are great. If you are going to boost on them, change the rods/pistons and upgrade the valvetrain. At that point, you could get a B16 block and boost on that instead.

i was wondering why i didnt see many boosted b17's...
and now i know why r/s ratio can be a good or bad thing for boost (didnt realize it before)
so if it has a shitty r/s ratio at higher rpms, then the rods usually arent as strong as the same design with a lower r/s ratio correct?

i can't imagine it being a problem to run a low boost turbo setup on a stock internal b17a if it's tuned right. i'm talking a max of 8lbs of boost. that's not so much force that the rods can't handle it. IMO should be fine with correct tuning.
i'm dropping a b17a in my wife's EF this summer, and we will boost it on stock internals right after that, so i'll let everyone know what happens.

I agree. But if you want to run high boost, I would suggest upgrading the rods and using some good engine management like hondata. Tuning is the key to a long living, and good performing engine.
