I need a paint job! help!
my civic is getting boring for me. it was handed down to me from my parents and its red... im thinking of getting a paint job. i just wanted to know the standard price of getting a quality paint job with the removal of the old paint. i dont want those cheap "ambassador paint services" that costs 200... and if you got a paint job, how much did it cost you? Thanks!
i've been qouted 800 from a reputable shop.... I suggest to just go with maccos unless your car is like a show car or something... because You can always get a warrenty and if anything happens they will fix it.. but its up to you so =/
yea, if you just dont like the color, go macco, it wont last, but you'll probably want to change the color again...so its cheap. good paint jobs range from 1000+(depending on many factors)

i have a friend with an oldschool eclipse and he got a maaco for 700 and it was a nice nice paintjob this was like 2 years ago and nothing has stripped off,it was like puke green but it was still tight, just tape of your radiator before you go because he said they just tape the pannels and thats it so you might wanna tape some things up that you think paint will touch that you dont want it to and youll be set,700

If you do a good paint job, make sure there is a room that is temp operated.
THese paint jobs are met to factory specs meaning that the temp in the room is warmed up to 150 degrees for the paint to absorb the metal.
These factory paint jobs also cost 1500+!
Don't believe what you always here, there are many ways to tell the difference between a maaco and a expensive paint jobs.
Maaco chips like there is no tom.

yah if you get a good paint job make sure you get what you pay for... But im saying if your car is a little more then a grocery getter or a job transportation, do you really a give a **** if your car is painted by maaco? Whats the sense of having a 800+ paintjob to get your car hit by shopping carts, people parking, you parking, kids playing ball.. It does not make sense to me. If your car is garage kept and a hobby car then i can understand why you would want that custom look. But for the money you would be saving you could have alot more fun moding the engine.... good luck

Exactly, who cares - so your car will look good for like 3 weeks while you baby it - but after your first door ding or cart knick you will just be pissed off you spend 4-10 times as much getting an expensive paint job.
And if you get the warranty on the Maaco paint job - it doesnt matter if it chips, or just melts off the car... they repaint it.

I found a guy that quoted me on a car for $500 including fiixing a small crease in the door. He used Dupont paint and did a awesome job masking things off. I took of all my lights and trim. I think I got a good deal since im one of his 1st customers. If you look a around you will find a good painter at a real body shop that can cut a deal. It just depends on how bad they want your bussiness. I wouldnt reccomend Macco unless thats all you can get.
you can get a real cheap paint job from maaco or you could pay extra for some body work and extra clear coat etc. all maaco paint jobs i have seen were good. im going to repaint my car soon...its going to cost me around 500$
It's not possible to quote what a "good" paint job will cost until it's clear exactly what you expect and what you are willing to do yourself!!!
You made a comment as if you are not happy with the red color. If doing a complete color change, that will require painting items like the door jambs and that will pump up the cost. Are you willing to pay to have new door rubber put on or are you expecting to have them mask around it? Do you desire to have the doors pulled so that the door jambs can be painted correctly?
What about the color within the engine compartment?
Are they going to pull the black rubber strips along the roof? Are they going to be replaced with new items? Masking this for a color change would be difficult!
Are you willing to pull off items like the headlights or bumpers yourself (and then put it back together)??
Are they going to prime the car with a filler and then block sand? How do they treat any bare metal that may be exposed during sanding?
I've got a red 89 Civic Si and have never been impressed with that particular red (too much orange to it). What I'm planning on doing is disassembling the body work down to something reasonable and then have it repainted a new red like that on the newer Honda's (it's a more "red" red). I'm not going to worry about the door jambs due to the fact that the difference in color isn't that significant.
The BIG thing to keep in mind is that painting a car (I've painted several over my extensive years) is VERY labor intensive if done correctly!
Even if you do it yourself, the materials cost a lot.

speaking of body work..how do they repair moldings?? i know they dont buy new moldings for you..or they might..but like if you have a part chipped off the molding..how do they repair?
Normally a body shop wouldn't bother trying to fix a molding piece. It's not cost affective. They would just order a new one from Honda and forward the cost to you.
On something like a urathane bumper, there are shops that specialize in doing the repair work and a body shop would just pull off the item and send it out (and forward the cost to you).
If you have a body shop repaint any of the moldings, make sure that they add a "flex" additive to the paint. This can be a problem in some areas of the country (like L.A.) due to the EPA limiting the avalibility (legality) of the stuff. A friend of mine owns a body shop and says that it's not unheard of having EPA agents digging through the trash to look for evidence of having the stuff.
If you personally want to try repairing a molding piece; get a catalog from Eastwood and see what kind of things they may have for sale. Another source would be to pick up a copy of Hemmins Motoring News to see what is available. (us old guys have to resort to all sorts of tricks when working on old cars where you can't just buy a replacement part!!!)

well i just wanna know the molding on the bumper because i dont wanna paint it..and theres a chunk thats kinda chipped off. masking the molding is easy..but im just wondering about fixing the molding on the bumper. if they dont bother fixing it, do they buy a whole new bumper and fwd it to my bill?
I have a red civic right now, and I want to keep it red. I just got my body kit it, and I thought of painting it myself, but it won't match my car, and it will be a hell of a lotta work and time I dont have right now. Would a place like maaco(sp?) paint my car red again, including my body kit? Last, would it all match?? Thanks!
Would maaco paint your car?=/ No they dont paint red cars they say its against the california violation 743 code 89 sorry. But you can always just stay with the color of the body kit, and a red car thats pretty cool these days. What made you think maaco painted cars anyways?jk... Yah they will paint your car and kit and yes it will match, but it might not be the exact match as the previous color. But it should look decent. You might not want such a cheap paint job i mean your car has a kit and stuff you might want to go with something more fancy. good luck buddy.
when i was quoted the guy told me to respray the car, pull all the dents, it would cost me about 15-1600 bucks. i have a chianti red metallic paint tho (factory honda paint color)
just left my car at maaco monday paid 708 for the ultra urethane paint job which was the most expensive, they are also removing a couple dents on my doors, removing rust from both wheelwells and smoothing out a dent on my hood. Its also got a 4 year warranty. Im not lookin to put my car in a show, I actually do drive my car and beat on it so as long as its 1 solid color I could care less. Each maaco is diff tho so look around, the first maaco i went to wanted over a grand and the guy flat out told me the paint would look horrible and that it would look likes sh*t. At the maaco i left my car at, the guy took me around, showed me the cars he had painted, showed me what he would do and all the work involved.
