saab turbo
hey guys, just got a saab turbo from one of techs. he has no idea what size it is. all i know is that it is a garrett. it might be off of a 89-90 900. anybody have an idea what size it is? tknxs
Or it could be the smaller t3 .48 on exhaust side and .42 on compressor side. perfect for sohc turbo set-ups, crappy for dohc set-ups if intercooled. I ran one for a while on a sohc and a dohc.

depends on the engine. For a sohc you could probably run 12psi with no problems. It's probably the happiest between 8-12psi (most efficient).
For a dohc i don't even recomend it. If it's a low boost application without intercooler then it's fine up to about 5psi no more. it would be good for auto x where you need instant spool but not a lot of power. If your runing it on a street car and want some decent use (power) out of it you'll need to run more boost but you'll need a intercooler because it will heat up the charge temp fast. What i've noticed is people who run this turbo on a dohc (b16 and b18) with an intercooler have lots of pressure loss. I would lose about 3-4psi (from about 8psi, then would drop off to about 4psi by redline). Some people have run this turbo up to about 8psi non-intercooled and experienced no (or minimal) pressure loss. I know it was the turbo running out of stean (out of it's efficiency range and not able to provide enough boost pressure) and not a leak somwhere because for one i had my intercooler pressure tested, two 4 others with simular set-ups (same engine, turbo, and intercooled) experienced the same problem, three i swapped turbo's and the problem went away ( i didn't change anything else)....
IMO this turbo runs on a sohc (d15 or d16) nicely, and acts (spools and makes power) like a medium sized t3t4 does on a dohc....My d15b7 made 139whp on 5psi of boost, not a ton of power but good for only 5psi and no fuel management

Cool....im running it on a D15B7.....Im planning on running 12 to 14psi in the future though and i am scared thats not gonna do it. Will i loose much spoolup by going to a T3/T4 with a .48 ex
checked the turbo again today after spraying it down with cleaner it's a .48 trim. don't know if it's worth using needs to be rebuilt. the shaft is locked up. my tech says he can do it,but i'm still unsure. i wanna thank you guys for all the help.
nobody responds to my questions on the other forums.
