Default Any one use tear offs when street riding

I rode at night the other day and within 30 minutes I had bugs all over my face shield. I was thinking tear-offs may be something to look into, but wanted some thoughts on this.

I've thought about this too. I just don't do enough night riding to really look into it.

I didn't even know that you had a bike.

Do you do a lot of riding around the same time? If so, won't you just be buying tear-offs by the truckload? Maybe you could keep a cloth with you in your pocket, and pull it out to wipe off the bugs (maybe pull over to the side of the road, too). Just be glad you're wearing a full face helmet. =D

I don't know what tear-offs are, but I don't think carrying a cloth with you would help much. It would only smear the bugs on your visor and decrease visibility.

Perhaps a semi-wet cloth, then? I'm just speculating, since I haven't been in this situation before.

Tear-offs are thin laminates that are affixed to the posts on your helmet shield (if you have tear-off posts). They can be torn off when they get dirty, and there would be another beneath it.

I do. I seem to attract the most bugs out of the pack. I should have taken a picture of the mosquito that got stuck on last time. It was the size of a grape. Looked like it just finished sucking on a pig. I thought I hit a chipmunk that my buddy threw up with his rear with all the blood.

Oh yea, where do you all get your shields w/ posts? I need to get a CX-1 for my shoei.

I used to have a Shoei RFR, and it had air inlets/vents right near the mouth. Like, air goes straight towards my mouth, without being redirected anywhere. I was riding near dusk once, and caught a gnat in my mouth. After that, you can be sure I rode with the vent closed.

I don't know where else you can buy a shield with the tear-off posts. But I know that Helmet Shop has GREAT service and is usually pretty inexpensive.

hehe, I don't think I would notice a gnat. Maybe a bee but nothing smaller than a lady bug
