My CRX won't stop revving...
Ok I'm cruising about a half hour ago and on my way from the car shop and then my car does a couple jolts, then I come to a stop light and my car revs to 5000 and then comes back down to 1000 then revs back up to 5000 then I shut it off. Then turn it back on it starts right on revving so I drove all the way home shutting the car off at each stop and turning it on. Then I notice as the car is coming coasting to a stop it only goes from 1000-2000, but right before I stop it goes back to the usual 1000-5000 rpms cycle. Anyone had similar problems or any possible solutions... I added somewater to my radiator the day before yesterday and it seemed to be running fine...could it be because we had a rather cold day and night this past night in Dallas? My friend had a similar problem w/ his Eclipse and it would rev like this and it turned out to be a bad temperature sensor was telling his engine that it was -50 degrees. Any ideas.
bad vacume hose maybe?? hondas are prone for those .. i know that soulds like my car .. although i dont knwo about the jolt?? didnt do any of that sill i spun a bearing
if it has a stock z6 intake mani, do this- start the car with no intake on it. there are 2 holes in front of the air flow controller within the throttle body. cover one of them. if the noise stops, youve found your problem, quiksteel it. if it shuts off, try the other. I believe the top one is the one that should stop the problem, if the tps is the problem. check your vaccuum lines as well.
It might be the fast idle valve...this happened on 95civicturbo's car. It started this past winter, but would only do it until the car warmed up. Then gradually it started doing it all the time. Once the valve was replaced it never did it again.
I only found one hole w/in the opening of the trottle body and I covered it and it didn't change a thing, but I did notice the coin shaped thing that is supposed to open (sorry not all that great w/ terminology
) isn't moving at all. Is this because of of a vaccuum leak?

I too had the same proplem with my 90 si. It turned out to be the fast idle valve which could be your problem as well. On mine it would only start to rev on its own when the car (got up to operating temp). It should move when it steps down from fast idle to normal or to compensate for some load on the engine (from A/C or headlights). Replace or remove. I removed mine completly without any negative results. Thats all i know. Good Luck
I have the same problem on my 90 DX sedan..... when I first start it in the morning everything is fine..... then when it gets up to normal operating temp. it's like the idle is stuck.... sometimes you can give it some gas and it'll return to normal.... sometimes it'll just get stuck at a higher rpm..... anybody got a pic of the Fast Idle Valve on a 90 DX? How much do they run? I can just unplug it, how? Thanks guys..
