Default Valve Adjusting Thread (Searched)

I have searched and read the other thread about this but there are some things that are not covered.

1: Would you trust your local Acura mechanic to adjust your valves. If so do you know how much it would cost?

2: How in the world would you know if they in fact to need to be adjusted (other than the mileage)

I would love to go and get them done... but im worried that something else will go wrong. Mechanics always do that. My car runs friggen awesome and I dont hear any unusual noise from my valve train.

I would love to do it my self but I could not live with my self if I did something wrong and fugged the engine.

Any information of input is much appreciatied!

there's a how to on http://www.c-speedracing.com - if you dont feel comfortable doing it then take it to an acura tech, at least that way you know if there is a problem it will be their fault.

Good info guys. Now, back to one of his question, how much it cost to have the Acura dealer do it?

I would try doing it yourself; I never worked with the valve train or anything, and was able to do the adjustment. Took me and a friend to do it but we just took it slow and everything worked out decently.

I say decently because I think some of the valves may be too tight because the engine is a little rough at idle.

also dont forget the motor needs to be stone cold before you start. if you would put your tongue on the manifold, then its cold enough.

30,000 mile service runs about 275-325 at an Acura Dealer.

That includes a valve adjustment. Not sure how much a Valve adjust is alone, but I'd do it myself with a helms and the right tools. Learning experience.

I heard it was right around $100 for the valve adjustment at the dealer...go buy the tools...make sure the engine is bone cold...read the C-Speed website...and do it yourself...

we did it by ourselves for the first time on my roomates GSR(integobsession).
So with that said, let me give you my opinion.

Go over the install guide on that cspeed link and also at team-integra.net. That will give you a good idea of what is involved.

With the proper tools(snap on valve adjustment tool, angled feeler guage, etc), it was very easy. After the first cylinder is done, you get a feel for how open/closed the clearances should be.

Both of us had a good time doing it. The most difficult part of the whole thing is to try n turn the crank to the right point without going past it. hahah...

Special NOTE:
- Thanks to Silverb18c1 for lending us teh snap on tool!
- Thanks to SMZ GSR for lending us a 19mm socket!

To answer ur question:
1. WOUld i trust an acura tech? Yes, don't ask me why.
2. How would i kno? I notice the motor sounds different when idling & running.

just remember tho. not all the time wil your valves get adjusted, they could still be good clearance. we just did a valve check on my friends GSR with about 111K miles. clearance is still good. so thats about ~$80 we just saved.
