A stock exhaust will bolt up fine to a B16A. I ran a stock exhaust for over a year with my engine swap, and my brother's 1988 Civic DX with a B16A is currently using a stock exhaust. Whoever told you it won't work is

Are you paying $430 for a replacement stock exhaust? Because if so that's freaking expensive!

i put a b16 in my 4 door and the exhaust system hooked up fine, the only thing that won't work, and i'm sure you know this, is the header from your old engine if you have one, other than that though, everything from the cat back will work fine

Thats pretty pricy for a replacement stock system, you could get an aftermarket one for about that price. I'd upgrade the dx exhaust it's pretty restrictive for the b16a imho.

500 bucks!!! good gosh you pay for a name! Any day I'd put together a custom exhaust. Might cost you 200, maybe a little more at the most. Just buy a good high quality muffler ( not a apc coffee can ), some mandrel bent elbows and stuff, and take it to a good muffler shop ( if there is one near you ). That way you know what it is exactly, unless you want the bling blang. go custom... my .02 cents

1. Don't gut your cat-- it's just tacky
2. That system IS an aftermarket- I have one (promotional deal)--
it looks expensive ( purdy....shiny... drool.. ), it sounds expensive (no fart can buzz), but its heavy and not a brand name (bling)
3. if you're wondering how a brand X exhaust could be that expensive its on the midas website-- on goravin.com

2.5 is way to big for a 1.6 unless you are using nitrous or forced induction

Slowpokesi, B16 madman's post made more sense than yours. By far.

I have a Thermal 2 1/4" now and like it alot. But I will never buy a complete aftermarket system again. It's stupid, you are paying at least twice what your system is worth.

My $.04, cuz my opinion is worth twice as much
