Default Piston Questions

I spun a bearing on my h22a1 the other day and i want to know the stander cylinder bore spec including it's max allowance. I plan on putting in some high compression type s pistons and was wondering how well they work or if i should just forge it with je or other pistonsk...

there are acutally 2 "standard" bores on a H22, an A and a B, you need to go buy a Helms manual, it will give you all the info you need, well worth the $66 from http://www.helminc.com

A & B are nearly identical. If your engine has many miles you should consider the 0.25mm oversize available from Honda. This requires rebore and rehone at a machine shop, but sounds like you may be spending some time at a shop anyway. And if you ask me, this is the "right" way to do it. You can get rid of any wear, scratches, or taper in the cylinder bores, and get a new surface for new (you are going use new ring, right?) rings to seat on. If you want to go aftermarket for pistons, the consensus seems to be that you need to sleeve the block. You don't need to do this with the Honda pistons. btw, I have a spare set of type S pistons if you're interested . Also, if you are doing this rebuild yourself, definitely get a helm. Good luck...

actually, IMHO, doing ti the RIGHT way would consist of send the block to Golden Eagle Mfg. and have ductile iron sleeves installed and boring it to 89mm with some JE pistons, but hey, that's just me

Ya, I agree with that! I was referring to the practice of re-using old bore surfaces, or even re-using rings or bearings. Sure this can be done, and if you measure the taper and everything you can probably get away with it. But the "right" way to do a rebuild is to use the oversize piston, re-hone, and use new rings, bearings, etc. Then it's like it rolled off the assembly line and you should have less to worry about...
