synchros own my tranny!!!need some help
what would be the smarter thing to do. My car grinds from second to third, should i have a synchro swap or just buy a whole new tranny. Which one costs more and what trannys will make an easy swap in my 1999 gsr b18c engine thanks.
Well depending on what you decide to do. If you're going to have someone replace the synchros for you, that can get up there. Around here, it could add up to close to $800.
My advice to you would be to get a type-r tranny and stick it on yourself. It's a lot easier then replacing the synchros. And it's a gread mod for your gs-r.

change your transmission fluid it mite stop the grind. It did for me and has done for others but i hear that after a while it will grind again but hasn't yet and if you grind you wil mess up transimssion so mite as well change it for the hell of it. I used mobil 1 and its trash thats stuff is what messed up my transmission made my grind even worse and was expensive. i was going to do gm syncromesh i actually bought it but their are different type of syncromesh your suppose to get the friction something syncromesh and they didn't have it. I got fed up and the gm stuff is expensive and tried honda mtf it was cheap and worked good. if i were u id try it. good luck

Hey,
I was having the same problems with the syncros a while ago. I changed out the old fluid with GM Syncromesh "with friction modifiers" as recommended by many others on this board and it worked great! I have an ACT II kevlar clutch in there and it made this funny squeeling noise before, but with the syncromesh it is totally quiet now. Only bummer is the stuff is like 18 bucks a quart. Ouch, 60 bucks for a tranny fluid change is a ton, but it is cheaper than a new transmission. Might want to give that a try - I definatly recommend it

I need to try this. I run Redline in my tranny, and it works great until it's been in there a while.
A used tranny will run you between $600-800 most likely.
