Default How much for a rebuilt tranny and do you think I need it?

Hello fellows,
My brother will give his car to me this November when I get my license and his MaD 3 GeAr aint working. It scratches pretty bad when you shift into 3rd. He has a Gs-r tranny with a B18c5 in a Ek. Should I rebuild the whole tranny or get a Type R one with a LSD? I am only 16 and kind of confused on what to do. So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

Have you tried changing the fluid to see if that helps any?

First, I'd try a fluid change and see how it does after a couple weeks. It might "fix" it or make it more useable.

If you get a new transmission, though, I'd say get a B16 or GSR and throw in a Quaife or KAAZ LSD.

My brother added 2 1/2 bottles of redline tranny fluid couple of months ago and this just happened like a month ago. Do any of ya know the price for a Type R tranny? I think I will bring it to Jotech in Garland, Tx and let them do it. I heards its around 1k - 1.5k $$.

Thanks,
Jason

Try flushing it with Honda MTF.

Not sure about the price of a Type-R transmission, but I wouldn't expect an easy time finding one.

Drain and refil. A search will turn up a how-to of some sort. Probably a picture, too.

Lets make this problem more easy on you. Since you got a Type-R motor with no Type-R tranny in the first-place, now's the time to get a Type-R. Hey, you got a car for free with the motor that has a busted up tranny. Just start saving, Type-R trannys run from $1,800-$2,300. Just search.

It's easy. Remove the drain bolt with a 3/8 socket wrench and let drain. Put drain bolt back on, remove fill bolt or speed sensor and fill it up with Honda MTF. There's a picture floating around somewhere, or you can go get the Haynes manual for an Integra from your local library.

Just for fun I asked the Honda dealer about a tranny rebuild for a SOHC tranny...

...$3500 for parts and labor.

Still wanna rebuild your tranny?
